Nepal: on the tracks of the maoïstes | France 2 | Envoyé Spécial

Nepal is no longer the paradise of backpackers and tourists looking for wide-open spaces. Buddha’s homeland is the theatre of a civil war that everyone ignores. King Gyanendra, heir to the Shah dynasty, is fighting the last Maoist rebels on Earth, 15,000 insurgents with one objective: to overthrow the monarchy. 23 million Nepalese are held hostage to the army and the rebels. Amidst the turmoil, and in spite of threats, a Frenchman is trying to help the Nepalese people. Patrick Forestier found him at the foot of the Himalayas, in the very heart of the conflict.
