Internet Travel: from dream to nightmare | France 2 | Envoyé Spécial
38% of French tourists now book their holdidays on the Internet. The choice is huge and in real time, but nasty surprises on the net are legendary: disappointing hotels, unexpected extras, deceitful advertising on certain trips of special offers that are impossible to get because of the limited numbers. And when the trip turns bad, it’s difficult to get compensation. We follow Ludovic’s assault course progress: he bought a low-cost plane ticket on the Internet, but his return flight was cancelled. He’s been waiting for the promised refund for over a year. As for Bernard, he saw his 8-day/7-night holiday in Crete cut by two days at the last minute. And the hotels sold on travel company sites are far from being regulated. We decided to try a holiday bought on the Internet for ourselves. Bernard Pichon, a reporter specialising in tourism played mystery client for us. We went to Agadir in Morocco to try out a 3-star hotel. The description on the travel agency site proved to be far from reality: the hotel is rundown and the restaurant mediocre.
