Waste: there’s treasure in our trash | M6 | 66 minutes

Barbara, mother of a family in Tourcoing, gave up her cosy job in marketing to work the trashcans. Each evening, she collects old furniture thrown out on the street by local residents. She gives them a make-over and sells them for very good prices on her Internet site. The ever-increasing frequency with which we replace our furniture, electrical goods and decorative objects means we are throwing out many items that are still useful. As a result more and more French people are salvaging them. Often out of necessity, like Jacques, a pensioner from Cannes, who can’t live on his meagre pension of 188 Euros per month. Other’s, like Barbara, treat such salvage as a trend-setting and ecological activity. A report from among the French who live out of the trashcans.
