UNCONTROLABLE CHILDREN, OVERWHELMED PARENTS: HOW TO COPE? | M6 | Zone Interdite

What can you do when a child becomes angry, violent and out of control? How to avoid giving up when faced with teenagers who take over the home? What is the role of the parents? Should you talk or simply rule? Can you distinguish a simple teenage crisis from a disturbing slippery slope? For a year, we shared the daily lives of families on the verge of disintegration. Broken dialogue, violence, incomprehension… they need to find urgent solutions. Reform school, educational counselling, the courts… what means are available today for parents and children to re-establish communication? 15 year-old Morgane is an angry, uncontrollable teenager. 7 months ago she ran away. Her mother, Lilou, is going mad with worry. Every day she searches the streets for her daughter. Torn between meetings and arguments, she just doesn’t know what to do anymore. 14 year-old Florian is a good student, but at home he is transformed and terrorises his whole family. Insults, rejection of any authority, threats of suicide… nobody is able to calm him. His parents are increasingly worried as his school grades are starting to drop. So they turn to an educational counsellor to help them understand their son’s problems. 9 year-old Jessy has been placed in a special school. A very different establishment that deals with children who “have problems of channelling”. Jessy has been there for a year. Gradually he is learning to manage his energy and his anger. 10 year-old Killiam is also due to enter the school. Violent and uncontrollable at home, how will he cope with separation from his family? His parents are trying to prepare him for the big change. Since 2002, a law has made irresponsible parents liable to fines or imprisonment. Every day families are summoned to the Reims courthouse because they have not taken proper care of their children. To avoid punishment, they have no other choice but to agree to a 4-day course at the court. The subject? How to raise your child.
