The President’s Men | TF1 | Le Droit de savoir
On the evening of the first election round for the French presidency 2000, the dice have been thrown. Everyone knows that Jacques Chirac will be re-elected for a second term at the Elysée. The only unknown is what will be his score and what will be that of his opponent, Jean-Marie Le Pen. These are the scores which will decide who is to be the next prime minister. If Jean-Marie Le Pen’s score is high, Jacques Chirac will chose a hard-line prime minister and a shock-troop” cabinet. If the score of the Front National is not more than 20%, he will name a more moderate prime minister and a government more politically in the center. Who will be the President’s men (and women)? The response will come from the ballot boxes. That’s why the elected officials of every political alignment are campaigning. We chose especially to follow Jean-Pierre Raffarin in the region of Poitou and in Paris, Nicolas Sarkozy in his city hall in Neuilly, Roselyne Bachelot in the Maine and Loire department, Marine Le Pen, candidate in the Pas-de-Calais, and Bertrand Delanoë in Paris. In the end, Jean-Marie Le Pen got 20% of the vote. Jean-Pierre Raffarin was invited that Monday morning to the Elysee where he was named prime minister. He will name to the government those who will become the President’s “men.””
