The mystery of the double murder at the shooting range | Enquêtes criminelles | W9
Brest: October 13 1996. It’s 9:00am when two men are murdered in cold blood in the middle of the city’s military base outside a shooting range where they did their practice. It’s a serious affair as one of them is a naval officer, François Picard, a 53 year-old lieutenant colonel. A few yards away from him, the second victim lies face down. He is Pol Creton, 32, a civilian who worked at the Brest Aquarium. Both men were killed by three shots from a .22 long rifle. The strange thing is that the two men did not know each other. In such circumstances how can a connection be established between the two murders? There are few clues at the scene of the crime. However, the methodical execution of the military man?two bullets in the chest and one in the head?leads one to think that he was the target of one or two professional killers. This theory is taken even more seriously when investigators discover that François Picard worked at a national defence strategic site. In particular he was responsible for measuring radioactivity in the bay of Brest. Had the man discovered an especially high level? Had he threatened to break that sacrosanct secrecy around defence? This is the beginning of an incredible investigation, filled with unexpected twists and turns.
