THE KEVIN LEFEBVRE CASE : PRINCE CHARMING WAS A KILLER | Enquêtes criminelles | W9

January 20 2016, Civaux in the Vienne. For two months, Maud, a 28-year-old dressmaker, has been in love: she met Kevin Lefebvre, a 28-year-old soldier, wounded in action. She was immediately won over by this widowed father who is raising his little 4-year-old son by himself. Only, lately, things have not been running smoothly. The young woman is exasperated by her sweetheart’s behaviour: she finds him secretive and evasive… Either things change or she’s breaking it off! So, to rekindle the flame, Kevin decided to impressive his damsel by finally inviting her to have dinner at his place. Maud is over the moon. However, she has no idea that her Prince Charming has lied to her all along the line. He’s not a soldier, he has no child and, especially, this house is not his. Worse: the dinner actually conceals a horrific crime. Beneath their feet, in the boiler room, a woman was killed: Chantal Delaunay, a 45-year-old mother, the true owner of the house. Two days later, when alerted by a neighbour who’d had no news, the gendarmes discover the victim. Everything seems to indicate that she died in sex play that went wrong: she is flimsily dressed, handcuffed and hanged by a belt over the door handle. The house is empty. No trace of Kevin or the famous dinner. Plus, he is not the initial object of the investigators’ interest because, according to their information, Chantal is in a relationship with one David, who is quickly eliminated as a suspect. So, what was Kevin doing at Chantal’s house? Were they lovers? This is how Kevin explains it when questioned by the gendarmes. He claims that Chantal’s death occurred during passionate love-making: he says he strangled his partner by accident. Only, when they dig into the suspect’s past, investigators become convinced that they are dealing with a staged event. In fact, the man was a serial seducer and all his prey paint a picture of a liar and a manipulator, liable to rob his partners before being unmasked. In 2014, he was convicted of abuse of weakness… and the plaintiff was none other than Chantal Delaunay. Everything points to a story of revenge. But the reality is far more unbelievable…
