In the beginning they were 7,000. Only 45 were successful in obtaining their ticket for the craftsmanship world championship. They are the cream of young French craftsmen and women. They are cooks, hairdressers, carpenters, masons or jewelry designers. And this summer they fly to Brazil to defend the tricolor in the 43rd World Skills Competition. Held every two years, this international competition allows young French prodigies to measure themselves against their foreign competitors in some fifty disciplines. In all, more than 1,000 candidates from some sixty countries, all aged under 23, will face each other over 4 days of competition. The aim? To return with as many medals as possible! It requires physical, mental and technical preparation. For these Olympic Games of the Crafts” the 45 candidates in the French team trained like top-level athletes.
