THE BOUCHARD CASE, THE MURDERER ALMOST FOOLED EVERYONE | Enquêtes criminelles | W9

On January 15 2012, in a small apartment in the centre of Dijon, a story of all-consuming love turned to tragedy. A fit of jealousy, a violent argument and an “unfortunate” act to silence the woman who shared his life… That’s the tale that Fabien Souvigné will later tell about the murder of Marion Bouchard. A lot later because whereas he could have alerted the police and assumed the consequences of his act, this young man of 23, will instead spend weeks making every effort to conceal his crime. “Enquêtes criminelles” tells the story of a fiendish murderer who manages to hoodwink his own parents, his in-laws, his friends and even the police. And if everybody is fooled, it is because Fabien Souvigné proves to be especially ingenious at concealing the absence of his 21-year-old companion: every time that those close to Marion ask for news, he always finds some excuse and manages to gain some time. Even more intriguing: during the search of the couple’s home, nothing suspicious is discovered. So, investigators will pursue the theory of a kidnapping. Marion Bouchard’s family therefore clings to the hope that Marion is still alive… far from imagining that Fabien Souvigné cut up his partner’s body before burying the parts in various locations around the city. Only, despite an almost perfect plan, Fabien Souvigné will commit a series of errors. And the last of them, the one that brings about his downfall, is the result of an incredible long shot by the police.
