Laurana is over the moon. The pretty blonde pretender to the throne of the Queen of the Lilies in Compiegne is just a few weeks away from the contest at the end of March. But one thing is special about Laurana: her wheelchair. She is the first disabled person to compete for a beauty queen title. Her life was turned upside down a year ago on January 12 2014. She was knocked down by a car and the diagnosis was irrevocable: Laurana would be paralyzed for life in both legs. However, on the advice of Christophe Espinasse, former host of Queen of the Lilies contests, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a beauty queen. In a few days, therefore, she will again attempt to win the contest she already entered in 2013. But the atmosphere is nothing like the same. Now it is a challenge. Between her re-education sessions, Laurana now trains at handling her wheelchair, plays wheelchair sports and meets her fan club, who encourage her day and night and there’s her sister, who is writing a book on her adventure.
