L’ESCALE: AN INSTITUTION THAT IS STILL OPEN! | M6 | 66 minutes

For a month now, transport cafés are the only ones allowed to open because of the lockdown imposed by the Covid-19 epidemic. Set right on the edge of the A20 near Chateauroux, L’Escale is one of the fortunate few to offer warmth and conviviality to truckers, an essential cog in our economic machine. A simple menu: A meal, a coffee and a smile thrown in! It’s just that because of the lockdown, Tom, the owner, has closed down the other rooms associated with the brasserie to all other drivers. More than ever, he needs the truckers, but he also has to rethink his organisation and venture into carry-out sales, gambling on the high-end with sea-food platters and tasty desserts. We spent five days with truckers and restaurateurs who are putting up resistance.
