Is wine still a natural product? | France 2 | Envoyé Spécial

According to Louis Pasteur, wine was “the healthiest of drinks”. In France wine has always been considered a healthy beverage without artifice. A product of the earth, good for both the morale and the arteries. And yet in this latest investigation, we discover that today wine is no longer the natural product we imagine it to be. Concealed in most bottles, even in the great vintages, are chemical substances that the consumer never suspects. Dozens of chemical additives are used in the production of certain wines. What are these additives for? Why are they not mentioned on bottle labels? We also discovered that in order to sell their wine at higher prices and deceive the consumer, some producers introduce even more additives. Beyond the legal limit. And that’s not all. Certain carcinogenic pesticides can be found in our glasses in the form of residues. Are all wines contaminated? And are they dangerous for the consumer? For months we carried out an investigation in the vineyards of France to find out why and how these chemical vintages are produced.
