Did Nadine Chabert disappear of her own volition or was she killed by her husband? That is the question the assize court at Draguinan must answer this week. It started like a fairly common story: a young couple who break up after several years of marriage. Then suddenly, from June 11 2003, Nadine shows no further signs of existence. Her husband Patrick states that she disappeared voluntarily to start her life over again. However, this is not the opinion of the judges who picked out inconsistencies in his account and sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment for murder. Is Patrick Chabert the author of the perfect crime or will Nadine reappear one day, as he claims is his hope.
