What to do about childcare for one’s baby when one wishes to take up work again? In France, finding a nursery school or an authorized mother’s helper has become an obstacle course: only one child upon ten finds a place in a nursery school, and there are too few mother’s helpers especially in the cities. There is just one alternative left: a parental auxiliary, in other words, a nanny, who will take care of the child at the parents’ home….often paid under the table. How to find her? What are their qualifications? Have these young women received any previous training? What will happen if there is an accident? Should these employees be declared?
