In the United States, down-and-outs¾ever more numerous with the crisis¾have become veritable “punch balls” for unscrupulous young people. For a fistful of dollars, and despite the risks, they are encouraged to run down a flight of steps in a supermarket trolley, or urged to fight one another. These disturbing scenes are filmed and even marketed on DVD. The authorities don’t always intervene because it is the homeless themselves who must bring charges.  This poisonous attitude where bums are no longer considered as human beings also leads to gratuitous killings.
