Village Slavery | M6 | 66 minutes

We thought stories like this belonged to the past. And yet, between five and eight people are said to be have been falsely imprisoned, beaten and reduced to a state of slavery over two years in a village in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. A family man, his wife and one of their sons lodged them in old shacks set up on their property. They made them work without ever paying them. They even forced them to commit acts of theft on their behalf. The father is also suspected of having sexually abused one of the female victims. These modern-day Thenardiers have just been indicted for undeclared labour, human trafficking and false imprisonment. How did they manage to avoid the local community raising the alarm?
