Vietnam, the Mekong’s geniuses | France 5 | Les Routes de l'Impossible

In the north west of Vietnam lie the Quan Hoa mountains. This is one of the poorest and most remote regions of Vietnam. The majority of farmers here live on less than a dollar a day. And yet the region possesses an inexhaustible wealth: bamboo. The green gold of Vietnam. Some of this bamboo is transported by raft. A makeshift craft, put together in only a few hours, sets out on the Luong river to join the Song Ma, the third largest river in Vietnam. This region is also the only one in the country where the roads are not all paved. During the rainy season, which lasts almost three months, trade is partially paralyzed. Even 4×4 and trucks soon give up trying to take the roads. The only vehicle able to move on the tracks is the Tuk Tuk”. But in Vietnam the motorbike rules. It’s practically a religion. There are more than 40 million motorbikes in the country.”
