The culprit: a young man, 19, who was driving without a license, was drunk and under the influence of cannabis. In January 2001, a bus driver telephoning with a hands-free kit caused a multiple crash. A grandmother and her grandchild were killed instantly. Revolted by the absence of sanctions, the grandfather gives his testimony: the reckless driver continues to exercise his profession, his driver’s license was not suspended. First legal decision in France in April 2003: a café owner was given a two-year suspended sentence for complicity in involuntary homicide.
