Traffic in women | M6 | Enquête Exclusive

Turkey is one of the crossroads for the traffic in women. This country has become the biggest market in women from East European countries–mostly Moldavians and Ukrainians. Leaving of their own accord for a job as waitress or dancer, they have their passports seized by their boss” as soon as they arrive. Imprisoned in a grubby hotel–with no money, often beaten and raped, always threatened–they are forced to satisfy more than ten customers per day.In Chisinau, the capital of Moldavia, one of the poorest countries of the ex-Soviet bloc, many young women, often minors, disappear each year. Officially, they left for Turkey with a tourist visa and the promise of work.Carmen was one of them. She has just returned home, her life shattered forever. After months of captivity by a pimp, she regained her freedom, but only in exchange for her sister, Natalia, by the trafficker who was exploiting her. Carmen decided to return to Turkey to free Natalia. Our crew went with her, using concealed cameras. After an investigation of several weeks, we uncovered the networks of Turkish and Moldavian pimps. Natalia, Carmen’s sister, finally escaped from them.”
