The wolf in the sheepfold | Enquêtes criminelles | W9

On October 30 2011, Cyrille Boutin, a 39-year-old janitor, leaves the family to go hunting. He will never return. Becoming anxious, his son, Hervé, immediately reports his disappearance. Searches are conducted the same day. In vain. The next morning, at dawn, Nathalie Boutin discovers the lifeless body of her husband deep in the forest. Did Cyrille commit suicide? Was he the victim of a simple hunting accident? The gendarmes discount both theories because the victim’s body carries five bullet wounds. Rifle shots clearly fired at point blank range. There’s no doubt that investigators have a murder on their hands! Cyrille was a volunteer with a charitable organization and was big-hearted. The door of his conjugal home was always open. In fact, just two months before the tragedy, Cyrille had taken in without rent not only his son’s partner, but also her father, one Jean-Marc Arbouin, a volunteer firefighter. The gendarmes quickly realize that Jean-Marc and the victim not only shared the same roof, but the same woman too, Nathalie. In the village, their close relationship had been noticed for over two years. Suspicions concerning the lover grow when investigators learn that Jean-Marc recently acquired his hunting permit…
