The scandal of the “mule women” | M6 | 66 minutes
The image is a revolting one: literally broken in two, the women carry enormous packages of merchandise that can weigh as much as 80 kilos. In Morocco they call them the “mule women”. Merchants use them as beasts of burden to supply the Spanish enclave of Melilla. The working conditions of these women, some of them quite old, are a modern-day scandal. An enquiry into an unimaginable practice at the gates of Europe.
