The Scandal of the dustbin babies | M6 | 66 minutes
“Don’t kill”! That’s the message you can read in the streets of Karachi over cradles set out on the sidewalk. They are intended for babies whose parents want to get rid of them. Essentially, girls. Because in Pakistan having a baby girl is seen as a curse: when she marries you have to pay a dowry. So someparents prefer to abandon their babies at birth in dustbins or at the local dump, where they don’t survive for long. However, a humanitarian association has set up these famous cradles of the street. Once a baby is left in one, there’s a frantic race against time to save its life.
