The obsession to lose weight : watch out, danger ! | M6 | Zone Interdite
For them, appearance is primordial. They consider thinness as a criteria of beauty and a synonym of success. In order to fight against pounds, they put themselves through draconian diets. Ready to torture their bodies, not realizing that this obsession to be thin can cost them dearly. Nathalie, age 30, mother of a three year old son, wants to please and to be looked at. She dreams of being an actress and goes from audition to audition. She weighs 52 kilos (117 pounds), has a height of 1,60m (5.2 inches) and won’t wear anything over a 36 (size 8) She has two scales at her home enabling her to watch her weight. Valerie, age 39, was formerly overweight. Making a great sacrifice, she lost 22 kilos (about 48 pounds). Her physical transformation changed her life: at the office, she won a promotion. She became more assured with her friends. But the lost weight remained in her memory. For her, food is no longer a pleasure but an enemy. Franck, age 16, is thin. But that’s not enough for him. He dreams of being famous and wants a perfect body. So he’s always watching his calories. Something no one in his family has ever done. Those close to him are concerned for he is putting his health at risk.
