The Marketing of Pleasure | TF1 | Le Droit de savoir

The end of censorship in the seventies enabled the sex market to develop. Films, magazines, internet sites multiplied, nourishing a business which has very little relationship with the artistic claims of its authors and editors. Whether it be the Frenchman Pierre Woodman, porno film director in Hungary or Larry Flint, American magnate of the girlie magazines, they all speak about the fierce competition in their respective fields which forces them to increasing sensationalism. Our investigators also went to the Venus fair in Berlin, a big show specializing in X-rated products. Thanks to changing mores, men—and more and more women too—motivated by desire for profit are developing new ideas for the “pleasure market” in hopes of making their fortunes. In 1999, the turnover for the sex business was already 50 billion Euros world-wide, with 1.5 billion Euros just for France.
