In France there are more than 27,000 of them. They’re called gardiens, concierges or supervisors. They take care of the maintenance and cleaning and they manage work in the building. And many make themselves indispensable by providing services and assuring social contact. And yet, in less than twenty years, their numbers have dropped by 25%. The cause: the salary costs which fall upon the co-owners. And so, relationships sometimes get tense between gardiens and co-owners. Some residents are even making the case for abolishing the post of gardien. From Paris to Marseille, we meet the last of the gardiens.
