The boom in identity theft | M6 | 66 minutes
One day, when they received a letter from a bailiff, they discovered that somebody else had stolen their identity and was using it to commit multiple swindles in their name, with total impunity. For the victims, it’s the beginning of a long, arduous road: they will have to prove that they did not commit the crimes. A hard struggle that can take several years. And it just doesn’t happen to other people: statistically, with more than 210,000 cases every year, a French person is more likely to suffer from identity theft than to have his or her car stolen or their house burgled! Deductions from salary, fines, loss of job: what do you risk if your name is stolen? How do you deal with it? A report on the French people who have to prove that they really are themselves.
