Shoot out in Marseilles: a week of high tension | M6 | 66 minutes
Never has settling scores in the projects of Marseilles affected boys so young. Last Friday evening, a 16 year-old was gunned down in a burst of Kalashnikov fire at the foot of his apartment block in the north of the city. In the gunfire, a child of 11 was hit and seriously wounded by 3 bullets. Clearly this was a case of reprisals between rival gangs of drug dealers. A tragedy that shines the spotlight on the grip that cannabis dealers have over these sensitive neighborhoods where unemployed teenagers are recruited at an early age as “choufs”, or look-outs. And now differences are settled with weapons of war, increasingly common in the projects. We spent a week in this neighborhood of Marseilles that is torn apart by violence.
