It was a most unusual New Year’s Eve experienced by the French under curfew. To forget the gloomy reality of the present for one evening, some decided to spend it with excess. For others it was a small gathering, but big on glamour and sequins, like designer Sakina Paris. The 31st was also the night for challenges. At the Hotel Barriere Normandy Deauville, a gourmet meal reserved for over two hundred guests specially served in their rooms was on offer. A first in its over 100-year existence for this hotel, the dramatic setting for one of the greatest of French romantic films, “A Man and a Woman”. On a festive night under curfew a trip across France, from Paris to Deauville, by way of Marseille and its guardian angels: the marine firefighters of Marseille.
