Murders, adultery, theft : very private investigations | M6 | Zone Interdite

Investigations, shadowing people, stakeouts, counter-investigations: this is the work of research agents, known as private detectives. There are 2750 private detective offices in France. The detectives are hired privately by individuals or companies to look for proofs, follow unfaithful spouses, confront the dishonest individuals, and it must be said that sometimes their activities are on the questionable edge of legal. How do they work? What are the risks of this profession? The TV program ?Zone Interdite? (Forbidden Zone) uncovers the secrets of these very private ?undercover? detectives. Roger-Marc Moreau, 45 years old, with the allure of a playboy, is a big name in the profession. More than just a simple detective, he considers himself a righter of wrongs. Along with Roland Agret, who was a victim of a judicial error 20 years ago, he heads a citizens? defense association against judicial mistakes. He is critical of the French judicial system in which a badly carried out police investigation can end up in the sentencing of innocent people. Unlike in the United States, in France the defense lawyers do not have the right to investigate: they must use the services of private detectives. Roger-Marc Moreau has become a specialist of the counter-investigation?his investigation which led to the liberation of Omar Raddad made him famous. Today he is investigating a suspicious death. July 13, 1999, a woman?s body was found in the Seine. The conclusion of the gendarmes investigation was suicide but her husband is convinced she was murdered. Roger-Marc Moreau, on the trail of a possible suspect, is trying to avoid a dismissal for lack of evidence, and to open new proceedings. Detectives today no longer only follow fickle husbands or unfaithful wives but also are called in for unpaid debts, theft, disappearances. Ton Menanteau, 30 years old, has become an expert in insurance fraud. He investigates for the big insurance companies, uncovering false declarations and false bills?..
