Murder in the Caribbean | M6 | 66 minutes
The sun, the beaches from paradise and the charm of its ladies. That is what drew Hervé Brégeon to the Dominican Republican. At the age of 40, the former professional basketball player turned businessman gets a divorce, leaves his 3 children in France and settles in Las Terrenas, a town of 20,000 population with a considerable French community. Hervé sets up a business and marries a pretty, young 26 year-old Dominican, Esther Déogracia. But the wonderful adventure doesn’t last. Esther seems to be interested only in Hervé’s money. She also has an annoying habit of being unfaithful to him. Hervé wants a divorce. On August 19 2011, Hervé’s body is discovered with multiple stab wounds. The police first suspect a botched robbery. But very soon, they discover the author of the crime. He’s a young man of 22. He confesses that Esther promised him €3,000 to kill Hervé. Esther, who commissioned the crime, and the killer are put in jail. However, today, 2 years after the murder, Hervé’s family and friends are up in arms. The Dominican legal system has still not found Esther guilty. Even worse: she has been released, because detention on remand only lasts for one year there. They fear that Hervé’s murder will go unpunished.
