Makeshift vacations | M6 | Zone Interdite
Not everybody can afford to go on vacation. For four out of ten French people, it’s impossible because they don’t have the money. Yet, despite that, some still decide to go, to have a change, to seek the sun and strange places. But with no money, they have to use imagination and ingenuity. We followed them this summer. For them it’s a makeshift vacation.Maxence and Julien, 22, go and sell do-nuts on the beach at Bormes-les-Mimosas. Their aim: to stay in the south of France for two months instead of the usual two weeks. But selling do-nuts isn’t as easy as they thought.Myriam, 32, is a waitress in Montbèliard. With her red dreadlocks, she’s a pretty girl bursting with energy. Her dream is Ibiza, its super nightclubs and the parties that go on till dawn. Her thing: be a DJ at those parties. In France, whenever she gets the chance, Myriam is a DJ. But in Ibiza, they weren’t expecting her to do the music and, when she finally gets her break, it’s in a tiny night bar.Anne, 44, spends her vacation at the youth hostel on the Isle de Groix, with her husband and their two sons. She meets friends there. For her it’s all a question of make-do and organization. For Anne the fun is finding the right thing and the plan that nobody else thinks of. Truly makeshift vacations where she gets the really nice feeling of being smarter than everybody else.
