Sore throat, stinging eyes? After junk food, radioactivity and pollution from motor vehicles, this is the new hobby horse for consumer organisations: harmful particles in the air we breathe in our homes. The accused: cleansing products, the glue under the carpet or in chipboard furniture. The latter give off formaldehyde, a chemical product which, in high doses, can cause cancer. Should be be alarmed? How do you measure the quality of the air in your lodging? Should we be wary of cots made of chipboard. How effective are “detoxifying plants” sold in garden shops?
