GREAT PROPERTY DEALS IN COUNTRIES IN CRISIS | France 2 | Envoyé Spécial

Buy yourself a house on a Greek island for the price of a tiny studio in Paris. It’s possible now. With falling wages and austerity regimes, the crisis is forcing Greeks to sell off their property heritage at knockdown prices in order to survive. In Spain, too, the country has been facing enormous difficulties ever since 2008. Families crippled by debt, bankrupt promoters, there are now hundreds of thousands of dwellings for sale. In certain regions prices are collapsing: by up to 50%.In Greece, falls are as high as 20 or 30%. Plenty of foreigners are taking advantage. Among them, more and more French. We followed some of them on their hunt for a bargain. Eva and François, a couple from Lyon whose dream is to move to the Cyclades. And Marie-Pierre and Patrick, who have just bought an apartment in Barcelona. Who are these buyers gambling on property in countries in crisis? Is this really the good time to buy? What are the traps to avoid? A journey into the heart of the great property clearance sale at our neighbours in Southern Europe.
