Every summer the most famous disc jockeys from around the world gather in the three main nightclubs at Ibiza in Spain. Day and night, thousands of fans vibrate to the rhythms of turntables and computers. For two months this small island is transformed into the temple of chic techno: 45 Euros just to get into one of the nightclubs, over 2000 Euros for a table in the VIP section. Not to mention the DJ salaries which can go as high as 12,000 Euros for a two hour session. Daft Punk, David Guetta, Erick Morillo, DJ Sneak etc. are the hot items. They are the new gods of electronic music. Their CDs sell millions of copies and their performances at the turntables bring out thousands of dancers. In this delirious atmosphere, “the beautiful people” (Jean Paul Gaultier, Jean-Claude Jitrois) and the general public brush shoulders all summer long in the streets of the old town and on the dance floors. It’s the latest new chic.
