Giving it all up to change your life – Episode 2 | M6 | Zone Interdite

To choose to turn your destiny upside down and start from square one, thousands of miles away: a somewhat crazy gamble that many think of someday, but never dare. In a neighbouring country or at the other end of the world, with a professional project or driven by a passion… we followed 4 families who found the courage to take the plunge.

Long-time lovers of travel, Caroline, 43, and Francois, 49, didn’t feel ready to give it all up. Until the first lockdown provided a spur. Francois, an HR manager, discovers a vocation for teaching when he provides classes for his two daughters, Margaux, 7, and Emilie, 11. As a nurse, Caroline has no problem finding a job in… Ottawa, the capital of Canada. 6,000 km from their home in Provence! So, Francois decides to enrol at the university in order to become a teacher.

He was a mechanic, she sold sandwiches… Joelle, 43, Eric, 32, and their little boy, Nolan, 6, are leaving the mountains of Savoy to settle on the paradise beaches of Nocibe in Madagascar. Together they are going to start a business renting jet skis. An activity that does not yet exist there.

We also catch up with the continuing adventures of Christelle and Yann, whom we discovered last week. These former railway workers who left for Martinique with their two daughters and a couple of friends, have taken over a 3,000 square foot restaurant right on the water’s edge. After a difficult opening, the four friends are pulling together even harder in the dining room and the kitchen.

Adventure is sometimes just down the street. When we met Olivier three years ago he had interrupted a comfortable career as an architect to return, at the age of 49, to study… as a skilled butcher! Boosted by the success of his first shop, Olivier is now considering opening a second and, why not, start raising his own cattle.
