It’s an increasingly widespread scam in France: “new stores” that open on the edge of town and only remain there for a few weeks. They telephone local residents, preferably retirees, and invite them to come and collect a gift that they have “won in a lottery”. However, once there, the guests are assailed by a pack of especially aggressive salesmen, who sell them high-end furniture at “knock-down” prices, but still amounting to several thousand Euros. In reality, their goods have little value… However, by the time the stooges realise, the store has disappeared into thin air.
