Georgia: supplying the Caucasus | France 5 | Les Routes de l'Impossible
The mountains in Georgia rise to more than 4000 meters and the road network is often in a deplorable condition. In winter, in the Svaneti region, dozens of villages are cut off from the world when the roads become snowbound. For the authorities, paving the network is not a priority, especially when a mere 300 inhabitants are concerned. There are some bold drivers who make their living from this road. With the first days of summer, when the flocks are moved, the countryside puts on a new face. Shepherds and villagers go up into the mountains aboard old Soviet trucks. Along the mountainside, the roads, often cut by rivers, snake up to the mythical Albano pass.
