Gang wars in the suburbs | TF1 | Le Droit de savoir

Two gangs from rival housing projects, Tarterêts, at Corbeil-Essonnes, and the Pyramids at Evry (in the Essonne district) fight each other continually for the flimsiest of motives. In 1998, an adolescent died in one of these fights. Since then, war has been declared between gangs of young people formed in each neighborhood. Considerable measures have been taken, men and material mobilized every night on a permanent basis to prevent a catastrophe. The Anti-Crime Squad, the riot police (CRS), deputy officers, community policemen, patrolmen, all the various police forces are present to avoid the worst. Although it’s difficult to establish a dialogue with the adolescents and in spite of daily arrests, the men and women of the police forces calmly continue to deal with this situation of utmost urgency in order to reestablish calm in this suburb. An extensive investigation which shows the present state of affairs and the problems posed to the nation by such situations of insecurity.
