Canyoning accidents, high-risk outings on the rivers, spectacular highway accidents, light aircraft crashes, not to forget a deadly fire of incredible violence… This year, the firefighters of the new Occitanie” region have once again worked without a moment’s respite. It’s the diversity of the terrain that forces them to be active on all fronts: from the highly touristic gorges of the Aveyron, to the narrow, winding country roads by way of the vast forests of the Herault, there are many areas at risk and the firefighters carry out spectacular, and dangerous, interventions. The majority of the firefighters here are not professionals. They are volunteers who confront every type of danger and rescue the injured, often reckless tourists, sometimes at the risk of their own lives. For two months, crews from Appels d’Urgence (Emergency Call) followed these warriors of fire on all their interventions. Some, like the dramatic fire that ravaged the Herault this summer, will mark these young firefighters for life.”
