The latest accident happened in April this year in a major amusement park. The car on a roller coaster hit part of the scenery, injuring 5 people, one of them seriously. Over the last 5 years we have witnessed some 50 accidents on rides in amusement parks and fairgrounds, causing 5 deaths. This is very low in view of the 100s of millions of people who visit these attractions every year. However, according to an expert, half of the accidents could be avoided if the equipment were better maintained.  How is safety guaranteed on these machines designed to thrill?
