Video-surveillance, GPS location of company vehicles, social networks just a click away: never have there been such readily available, simple and accurate tools for businesses to watch their employees. The areas of activity may appear legitimate: the fight against theft, control of profitability, prevention of unfair competition or defamation of the business. But at what moment does the surveillance cross the limits imposed by the law or morality? Where does the boundary lie between good business management and spying? Are the private lives of employees under threat? We investigated the phenomenon of employee surveillance. We collected fresh evidence and investigated these spies, whom they call “implants” (fake employee infiltrators) in the world of security. A practice that is less of an exception than one might think… A look into the heart of businesses that have entered the age of suspicion.
