DETOX : the scams around the latest fashion diet | M6 | 66 minutes
Grass juice, young vegetable shoots and lemongrass tea. These are a few of the ingredients in the latest fashion in well-being. Its name is splashed across every women’s magazine: “Detox”, short for detoxification, the idea being to cleanse yourself from the inside, purify yourself and, along the way, lose those surplus pounds. Restaurants, food items, hydro-electric gadgets, revitalising cures? this fashion label is used everywhere. Hollywood stars such as Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Aston openly boast of their detox diet. However, this trend is being closely monitored by the Ministry of Health. Although consuming broths or natural garlic may be harmless, this “label” has its shady side: con men who, at very high prices, will sell you machines that are supposed to draw out the toxins through the soles of your feet. Nature cures where you eat nothing for a week. Even more dangerous are the gurus who claim that by fasting continuously for several weeks you can cure cancer.
