CRYPTO-CURRENCY : A NEW ULTRA-VIOLENT KIDNAPPING | M6 | 66 minutes

This Thursday, May 1, the small world of crypto-currency was once again the target of a meticulously prepared and particularly violent attack.

It was around 10:30 a.m. when a surreal scene took place in the middle of the street in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. In front of stunned witnesses, a man in his fifties was forced into a van by 4 hooded men.

The victim turned out to be the father of a young man who had made his fortune in crypto-currency. And it’s not long before his son receives a ransom note. The criminals demand several million euros in exchange for his father’s life. And to get their way, they didn’t hesitate to send him a video of their hostage with his hand mutilated. One of his fingers had been cut off during his captivity.

Fortunately, after 48 hours of anguish, the police found the man safe and sound in a house in Palaiseau, Essonne. And 5 people were arrested for their involvement in the kidnapping.

But the phenomenon is worrying both the authorities and crypto-currency holders, who have decided to redouble their vigilance. Indeed, in recent months, attacks of this type have been multiplying. We still remember the January kidnapping of Ledger founder David Balland. He too had his finger cut off while in custody.

Could crypto-currencies have become the new Eldorado for criminals?
