February 23, 2002, Ingrid Betancourt, candidate for the Colombian presidency was kidnapped by extreme left guerillas: the Columbia Revolutionary Armed Forces. (CRAF). Ingrid, who is married to a Frenchman, has dual nationality. Her name has now been added to the list of three thousand people kidnapped in Columbia. The guerilla has demanded the release of prisoners held by the government in exchange for the hostages it holds.
