It’s a revolution in criminal investigation: now, thanks to advances in DNA analysis, it is possible to track down a killer some 15, 20 or 30 years after the crime. Hundreds of old investigations, hitherto forgotten by the law, cold cases”, can now be reopened and solved… An immense ray of hope for families, who have sometimes given up. In Saône et Loire we followed the fight by two mothers, Marie and Marie-Rose, who are trying to find the killers of their daughters. 18 and 28 years after the crimes, it’s a real challenge against time. In Picardy, in the quest to find the killer of a young girl of 16 in 1985, the gendarmes set about taking DNA samples from all the men who lived in the village 30 years ago. Their investigation led them to an astonishing suspect. In the Paris region, the Office for crimes against the person is using the computer to solve the most difficult cases. In the investigation into the disappearance of Estelle Mouzin in Seine et Marne in 2003, software is gathering all the information on the case. For the police, this is the last hope…”
