ON THE TRAIL OF THE KILLERS & THE HOUR OF JUDGEMENT | TF1 | Reportages

On the trail of the killers (42’)

It’s a revolution in criminal investigation: today, 15, 20, 30 years after a crime, it’s possible, thanks to progress in DNA, to trace a killer. Hundreds of old cases until now forgotten by the law, “cold cases” that can now be reopened and solved… Enormous hope for the families who sometimes no longer believed. In Saône et Loire, we followed the struggle by two mothers, Marie and Marie-Rose. Throughout 28 years for one and 18 for the other, they have sought the killers of their daughters. Today, Marie will finally be able to attend the trial of the presumed murderer of her daughter. In eighteen months’ time, it will be Marie-Rose’s turn… In Picardy, in an attempt to find the killer of a young 16-year-old girl in 1985, gendarmes took DNA samples from all the men who lived in the village thirty years ago. Their investigation leads them to an astonishing suspect…

The hour of judgement (42’)

The battle fought by Marie Rose Blétry is about to end. From January 23 to February 3 2017, we followed the trail of the presumed murderer of her daughter. A highly tense trial. For 9 days, she never took her eyes off the accused, waiting for his confession… Several hundred kilometres away, another family wishes that it’s fight will one day end in a trial. Samuel and Jeannette Kameugne lost their son in 2008 and they still don’t know why. Stéphane, aged 24, was a student at the National College of Arts and Crafts in Châlon in Champagne. He disappeared on the night of the college party. His body was discovered in a canal 200 meters away. The legal investigation concluded it was an accident, but Stéphane’s family, convinced of the opposite, have never given up. In July 2016, we accompanied them to the office of the new judge in charge of the case. He had just decided to widen the investigation to one of murder. Ten months later, Samuel and Jeannette will finally be able to get answers to the questions they have been asking for 8 years…
