50 year-old Mariette is unable to sleep. And for good reason: for more than six months she’s had no news of her brother, Raphael Lomoro. Raphael lives in Madagascar where he made a fortune in the vanilla trade and only returns to France for a few weeks each year to see his wife and six children who live in the East. So Mariette decides to carry out her own investigation. She contacts friends of her brother in Africa. They all tell her that Raphael was supposed to return to France to spend Christmas with his family. She makes enquiries with airline companies and discovers that Raphael did indeed land at Roissy on December 15 2006. But why did he not contact her? Mariette reports her brother’s mysterious disappearance to the police. Investigators discover that four withdrawals using Raphael’s credit card were made after December 15, but nobody had seen him in the region. Was the man the victim of some heinous crime?
