Anorexia: men too | M6 | 66 minutes

We used to think this mental disease was restricted to women, but today in France three out of ten anorexics are men. Like Pierre, 17, who weighs only 35 kilos for a height of 1m.75. Six months ago he weighed 80 kilos. However, a deep unease pushed this sportsman to skip increasing numbers of meals while still practising sport in an obsessive manner to lose the little that he put inside his body. How can this phenomenon be explained? Just as for girls, the rules of fashion are tyrannical. To look like the “slim” figures launched in the early 2000s by Hédi Slimane, men must be increasingly thin. And once the disease is established, it turns into a long battle using psychological therapy and the vigilance of the family and loved ones. Even when taken into hospital, some anorexic men hide in order to vomit or do exercises.
