Afghanistan with Commandant Massoud | Reportage | Arte

Our film teams met Massoud, leader of the last resistant troops against the Talibans, in 1998. He was holding on to his positions in the Northern part of the country. He had managed to get supplies of arms and food into that inaccessible region and continued to unify his exhausted troops, decimated by years of war. He was the incarnation of resistance with scarcely any means, first against the Red Army (the second army in the world) and then against the Talibans who were supported by the unnatural alliance of the neighboring Pakistan and the United States. This war was far away, his combat was ignored. We recorded it. Who was Massoud? Where was he? How did he manage to get supplies and to organize his troops? What kept him going for more than twenty years?
