Ground beef patties make up 25% of the beef consumed in France. On average the French eat 42 per year. For the producers it’s a strategic food line allowing them to make profit from carcasses of questionable quality. Mired by food scandals, ground beef arouses a great deal of mistrust. Yet it is one of the most highly supervised foods in France. However, with prices varying between 5 and 20 euros per kilo it’s not uncommon to be eating something other than beef. Ingredients such as bamboo fiber are used to create less expensive recipes.
